Capturing the amazing work of promotional set building and hosting through photography at the Birmingham NEC

Campaign Launch PR Photography: This assignment allowed me to visit the Birmingham NEC during the UK’s biggest gaming shows, EGX 2016.  On arrival I was shown round the halls to give me a quick tour and it was huge, all halls dedicated to games from the original retro consoles, all the way to massive stands showcasing latest releases of well known blockbusters with visitors queuing for hours to play a short session on a networked server.

My particular assignment was by a company that build sets for Warner Brothers and supply the hosting staff, all of which are designed to have a particular theme to ensure all visitors to the stands come away with a super positive memorable experience. One of the stands in particular had a show only device that replicates bad smells, so when certain scenes happen in the game, the player experiences this as well, in real life!

My brief was to capture the sets, the staff and positive reactions from the visitors so that the images can be used to for future promotion of other campaign launch PR projects.  Within this brief I was also advised that I wasn’t allowed to photograph certain adjacent stands, as my aim wasn’t to promote them, also some of the games were still not released so shots including them couldn’t be used. Although this brief was quite straightforward, one of the keys aspect about the gaming halls was how dark it was, however being used to working in similar dark environments and having the kit, experience and post processing skills, it was no trouble to bring the best out of the event.  (For you camera tech heads out there, some of the images here were shot at ISO6400 F1.4 1/160th!).

John Wick Cosplay Portraits

A set of movie inspired portraits from the film John Wick, starring Keanu Reeves

John Wick Cosplay Portrait:  The beauty of working as a photographer is that by reaching out to other creatives, you find amazing inspiring people to work with.  One such individual is Oliver Hollingdale, owner and producer at Sunnymeade Films.  Without realising it and even before we got speaking I was already aware of Oliver’s work, as he has produced a series of fan films called ‘Cursed Edge’, based upon the 2012 ‘Dredd’ film, so to be introduced to him to work on a collaboration of a set of cosplay portraits in line with the John Wick film and the soon to be released John Wick 2, I knew that the approach and the results would be nothing short of spectacular.

Oliver had a location in mind, one he had used before for both stills and filming being the LEMO UK Limited building in Worthing, an awesome location and one that even during working hours we had reasonable free access around.  Oliver brought along props, even purchasing and modifying quite innocent plastic guns to look like real sidearms, however the biggest thing here is, and this is quite an important point which I hope you agree with, is that Oliver is not just a massive cosplaying fan of John Wick, but he looks like him and especially for the shoot made sure that his hair and beard were trimmed just right.  At times during the day, I just had to double take when he turned a corner, or looked round, it was just uncanny.

The build up to the day involved a few phone calls plus some time swapping messages and compiling a storyboard of targeted shots.  The initial inspiration behind the shoot was a promo image released for John Wick 2, being that of a shot of John Wick being measured up at what appears to be a tailors so we were sure to complete that, however taking into consideration the type of lighting and mood the overall first film had, plus the location, we planned out and worked on what we both wanted and below we showcase a few of the edited shots from the day.

I’d like to thank Oliver Hollingdale for choosing Charter Photography to work with on this, I know that Oliver has plans to produce a fan film based around a John Wick  prologue, with the teaser here (clicky) having scenes shot by myself.

If you like these, I’d love to talk to you if you are planning your own production, we can work together on realising any vision you have.  Call me now on 07778919589 or use my contact form here.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Promotional photography for Joe Cooper of Infinity Sports and Fitness

Personal Trainer Fitness Photography: I’ve known Joe for a little while, mainly through speaking to him when he worked at my gym but also seeing him in the build up and at his cousins wedding, I have to say he is such an awesome positive guy.  I knew he left full time work at the gym to start up his own fitness business and to be contacted by him a year on to take some pictures in the next step of his business being a larger premises due to an expanding client base, was such awesome news.

Joe explained to me that for for the next step in his business growth he plans to promote himself further as a fitness and personal trainer, using photographs to show new clients his fitness gym and to explain through photography how he treats everyone with a positive individual personal approach to ensure that their personal plan is just that, personal to the individual.  When we discussed the shoot I recommended he ask a couple of clients to come in who were willing to work with us during the shoot, and it was good to see Joe hasn’t lost any of his personable charm when working with his clients.

I was hired by Joe as he has seen my work for other businesses and he knows that I take the time to understand the philosophy of my clients, as well as understanding the requested final image requirements, I also like throwing in ideas of my own.  After receiving the images, feedback from Joe has been positive, I hope to see Infinity Sports and Fitness grow from strength to strength in the near future.

Corporate Portraits Buckinghamshire

Corporate portraits – a way of showcasing your team for both internal and external promotion

Corporate Portraits Buckinghamshire:  It was my pleasure to be invited in to a Buckinghamshire pharmaceutical and information technology recruitment company to take corporate portraits of their exciting team.  The company are growing from strength to strength and decided that a new set of images capturing the ever expanding team would complement their new web site, with the brief of the images to be a bit relaxed, trying to capture the personality of the team, so anyone contacting the company can know who they are speaking to by just clicking on their website to see.

Having the ‘face behind the voice’ is I believe is important to any business.  In today’s ever automating society, with face to face meetings becoming rarer and rarer if you are a leading provider then you need your potential clients and your existing clients to feel comfortable with their contact, so investing in a set of corporate portraits to put this ‘face to the voice’ is important and can be considered a relatively small but important investment for your company.

I can provide a wide diverse range of corporate portrait styles, the white background portrait can be set up in any premises and is easily reproduced to give the same repeated results, or I can provide environmental portraits using your workplace as a backdrop.  If you are serious about investing in how you and your business are perceived by your clients, I’d love to have a no obligation chat with you about how I can help you promote your own awesome team, call me now on 07778919589 or use the contact page here.

Charity Event Photography: London Zombie Walk 2016

London Zombie Walk 2016

Charity Event Photography: London Zombie Walk 2016:  Walk around London on any given Saturday and the selection of people you will see is varied to say the least. But on Saturday 8 October 2016, it was time again for the 300+ zombies to shamble around London for the charity event supporting St Mungo’s which is an absolute pleasure to photograph, with such a wide range of styles and the make-up was just amazing, also it was so awesome to see a lot of familiar faces, shaking hands with the guys and gals, I even got a few hugs and ended up covered in fake blood again which is always fun!

Although it’s a zombie photography day out and a lot of fun, but we shouldn’t forget that it’s also to raise money for the St Mungo’s charity that supports the homeless in London. If you are reading this blog and would like to make a donation to this worthwhile cause, please use this link.

I would like to say a massive well done to the organisers who are good to see every year, David, Megan, Alex, and all the regular Z-heads that have come and said hello and thank you, namely, Adam, Mark, Jade, and Carlina amongst others.  Apologies if I’ve missed anyone!

Here a selection of images from this amazing day out shambling around London
