Campaign Launch PR Photography
Capturing the amazing work of promotional set building and hosting through photography at the Birmingham NEC
Campaign Launch PR Photography: This assignment allowed me to visit the Birmingham NEC during the UK’s biggest gaming shows, EGX 2016. On arrival I was shown round the halls to give me a quick tour and it was huge, all halls dedicated to games from the original retro consoles, all the way to massive stands showcasing latest releases of well known blockbusters with visitors queuing for hours to play a short session on a networked server.
My particular assignment was by a company that build sets for Warner Brothers and supply the hosting staff, all of which are designed to have a particular theme to ensure all visitors to the stands come away with a super positive memorable experience. One of the stands in particular had a show only device that replicates bad smells, so when certain scenes happen in the game, the player experiences this as well, in real life!
My brief was to capture the sets, the staff and positive reactions from the visitors so that the images can be used to for future promotion of other campaign launch PR projects. Within this brief I was also advised that I wasn’t allowed to photograph certain adjacent stands, as my aim wasn’t to promote them, also some of the games were still not released so shots including them couldn’t be used. Although this brief was quite straightforward, one of the keys aspect about the gaming halls was how dark it was, however being used to working in similar dark environments and having the kit, experience and post processing skills, it was no trouble to bring the best out of the event. (For you camera tech heads out there, some of the images here were shot at ISO6400 F1.4 1/160th!).
